I'm Back!

I first typed a :) after that, but.. in the end, its not that a happy thing, I liked it more over there. The air was fresher, sun warmer, more snow (no snow here), .....

It was great! Really!

But first things first.
We had an awfull trip. This was my worst experience with Halloween so far. I can hardly express how bad the bus drivers were. I got on the bus and got this feeling of foreboding doom. I NEVER had a bad feeling about a bus, but this time, it was hell. Then the prick dropped us on some square with ever so vague instructions on where to go. We ran all around the place to find where the fuck we needed to go and talked to a dozen of people. All the time hoping for some Halloween twat to help us, greet us, whatever.. But in the end we found it on our own tnx to the tourist office.

I was terrified about the whole weather thing. But once there the weather turned out fine. The first few days the weather was great. Sun all around. Some brown spots outside the pistes but no further complaints. About mid week I started fearing for the snow condition. And guess what, a nice half a day of snow :) Enough to get trough the rest of the week on fresh snow. I had a wonderfull 2 days of Hors Piste. 2 days of woderfull powder. I had GREAT rides! And the oppertunity to break everyone in on the powder. And I can say we ve got some addicts :)

Reinaldo did as most of us already feared. Most of us expected it happen in a halfpipe, but .. It happened mid week. On wednesday, we were riding & spotted a nice piece of powder, just next to the piste. We rid it and .. well, we had a plan. I rode first and watched him go. He started, but after 2 meters he changed his mind and raced down to the piste. A nice lil jump to make, only he made a small mistake & it cost him his ancles!

On the list of casualties is also Vleer with severe chest pains, Bio with a bruise on his bum, as big as his head! and Iris with hurt knees and thumb. The aforementioned could all continue their fun, Reinaldo couldnt :/

Viona s level is astonishing :) She really overcame A LOT of fear this week! She s able to take any type of chair lift. Even the scary old one that smacks you into its seat on departure, bores the hell out of you because his slow travel speed and scares the lot out of you when you need to get off.. Also, she overcame all her doubts on pistes where she didnt even want to look down of at the start of the week!
I was even able to teach her te turns even tough she was very sceptic about learning tactics (and I did Nothing wrong, I swear! No naked stuff or whatever!)
I'm proud :)

As for me.. I had a great time! Im really glad about my level at the moment! I can snowboard everywhere at a relaxed pace, I dont fall anymore, .. I still have some bad habits when I get tired or whatever, but.. all n all I'm happy about where I'm at!
.. Even jumping over lil streams & stuff.. Yeah!
& I had some Wonderfull powder :) Gotta love Risoul! Really!
I also customised my snowboard with a custom made 30cm sticker, the Ring of Doom logo! Its great, really :) I'm waiting for pictures from our ChopChoyWarrior.. anytime now .. I'm quite anxious to post them :D My board looks great!


And so we got back!
we had a hell of a bus trip, Vleer forgot his snowboard boots on the bus (I had to get them later someplace), but all n all the laurel & hardy looking bus drivers were 2 sympathetic blokes. They even left the toilets open without bitching about it!! Great blokes :)


Now, getting back really meant the end of my vacation. No time to lose, hell no.
The same night (about 9h after leaving the bus) I had a job interview! And guess what, I got accepted! I now have 14 days of trial period and I'll be making Mad Money :D
It really takes a load of, to be able to make money again!!

Only ONE more day till we leave for Risoul!!

And its looking good! Checkit!

I finally solicited

I finally got to writing a letter ive been putting of for days and years before that.

Times of need.. I guess ..
anyhow, I hope to get a positive response :) Its a job I wanted to do for a long time already. And I AM looking forward to it. I can use any cent I can get. And I d rather get it in a nice way :) Not that I'm afraid of the dirty or unpleasant ones, but if a chance arises..

I'd really love to work at the Illy cafe next door! It d be nice .. & convienient :)
I really like the atmosphere of that place. To drink at leasr, but I imagine it d be the same to work there. I'm quite sure I'm qualified.
But they dont need anyone :) & I cant go break the curent guys legs, can I :) Altough it would probably solve the problem (at least for a while) lol - The coffee is having its effect on my thinking, hehe

Normally Id stay awake for some more hours without any tought to it. And I could! But .. my life is changed .. and lets leave it at that, no use in trying to put a value on it all. Its for the better in the end.


I think I'll go read some more "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell".. A surprising book by Susanna Clarke that has me captured at about 110 pages a day.
And maybe even call it a day!


The only thing I pitty is having to go to bed without my darlig Mini.

I'm jittery

I just had 2 small cups o coffee.. With condensed & sugared milk :D Hehe Im on a cofee rush & a big one for that matter :D
Got my heartbeat at 80 beats a minute.. (20 beats a 15 seconds to be precise) Cant remember if thats high or very high. I'm sure tough that its not low :)

I miss my mini! She went home for the evening, has some stuff to do, but for some reason I didnt realise she was going home untill she told me this morning. (for the Xth time already probably) And it was quite a nasty shock for that.. I didnt like it. I instantly started missing her. If I had known up front it d have been no problem, but since it just kinda fell on my head, I was Really .. shocked!
Dont get me wrong here, I'm glad she did. I'm proud, since going home is always a dificult step (try preparing yourself for an hour of public transport, 2 or 3 changes between busses and trains and a lot of waiting time. Its not nice.
ANYHOW, I miss her :/
And I Love her :) hihi


I also had a .. funny moment today
actually it was SHIT!

Stitch called me yesterday saying some kids had gotten my password (lets not go into details here). As he described how, I laughed and said there was no way that was possible. I even chalenged them. Well, seems I was wrong. The whole thing wasnt the way I expected and .. they were right. It was as easy as reading.
.. Is there a lesson in this? Probably..
...
But I wont go into that.. Actually I'm not sure yet about what exactly I will draw from this experience. There IS one conclusion I've already decided upon..
But again, lets get into that in a later post!


I wrote some fun software the day before yesterday.. A program to pour database info into a text, runtime formatted with tags.. It was fun
And I got the plan for some very handy software too.. A new version of the thing I wrote. A tool to condense the aforementioned database into a neat rulebook.
Another neat thing that ll surely make our life A LOT easier

RoD is good for my creativity! I finally get enough inspiration to write handy & decent software.
And Gent is good for my initiative, since here I can finally write all the great software I think up :D

Nu, als we naar t verleden kijken leren we dat dat helemaal niet interessant is! Au fond is da de teloorgang van ICQ geweest! Icq was groot, uitgebreid, log en zwaar. Opstarten duurde een eeuwigheid en t was nimeer toegankelijk.
Toen kwam MSN. Msn was licht. Msn was simpel (het afschaffen van een nr & vervangen door een email adres & de compatibiliteit me hotmail zal er ookwel mee te maken gehad hebben & t feit dat t in windows zat mss ookwel) Alle nieuwe gebruikers gingen op MSN, ICQ was te moeilijk / te zwaar en de ICQ ppl veranderden ook al snel naar MSN want .. iedereen zat op MSN & wat iedereen erover zei bleek ook waar.. dus leve msn! Ondanks het feit dat de meeste mensen die ICQ gewend waren wel wat dingen misten en haatten aan MSN..

Als we nu kijken.. Ik installeer de laatste 2 msn's al nimeer op mijn laptop want het is te zwaar geworden, me msn kunt ge tegenwoordig al spellekes spelen, video conferencing, desktops overnemen, NOG meer speciale smilies & dergelijke, ..

Msn zit goed op t pad dat ICQ kapot gemaakt heeft.
anderzijds, zal msn het makkelijker uithouden door de windows combinatie, hotmail combinatie, ..
Maar wat gaat t geven als bvb google nen deftigen & lichten tegenpool brengt ism hunnen gmail (die ontegensprekelijk supperieur is aan hotmail), ..

There we go.. a script to start xboard with the needed info. You have to have an existing game to be able to do this (just save one & then start using the script) It checks if some files exist to prevent losing your game to empty files.
This way you can also just watch the whole thing

Just Me: Blog Life vs. Real Life

This is a post I comment I tried to give on Sissys page, but I got horibly confused, tried to "email this to a friend" where I gave her email adress I got from her profile, only to try & send it, notice it has a 300char limit & .... to then send a short version cursing the system & telling her my reply will be on my own site, if she cares to read it.. To THEN find the real comment option where I posted the following. Its pretty self explenatory I guess.. and as to why the messup? Its 5 in the morning! cut me some slack

FUCK, I just confused the "mail this to a friend" option with the "comment" option! Im so very very sorry! Anywho, here s the reply as I typed it in the wrong box & sorry again for the probably very wierd email! (this is plain embarassing)

The issue you re talking about here is something I think every blogger should at least consider before trusting their valuable toughts and feelings (diary) to the intwerweb. The anonimity of the masses..

I know the feeling you describe here. I never made a secret of my blog (you do remember me & it, do you?? :p) and I actually stimulated some of my friends to read my gruesome secrets. But in the end, it does make me wary of what I type. Each letter I put down, each word has me consider if I want anyone to know this.

In the end, the result is that I write less open than I could. There are things I dont want certain people to read, so to be on the safe side I just dont write them. On the other hand, I dont have the need to write those few oppinions down. And I'm really blunt and honest most of the time, so there s really not much I have to leave out. But there is, and thats because I realise that by putting my deepest soul stirrings online, I make them known to all who are faintly interested.


What am I saying here? (I know, it gets fuzzy, but thats because I wont reread it at this time o day when I should either be sleeping or studying!) Making your blog even more public than it already is might be quite a big step. But then again, there s already the posibility that people are reading what you write (ever tried to google yourself? it can be an angsty experience)! So how much would it Really change?


Most people dont talk to me about what they read in my personal internet diary. And those who do and come bitching about it on top of it all, get one simple answer.. "You read my personal blog. Its online so you can read it. But that doesnt mean I want to talk about it with you! So live with the fact that that is indeed what I think or stop reading my blog! Remember, I didnt ASK you to read it!"
And this kind of reaction mostly works :)


I hope I didnt just spew a large chunk of characters, impossible to combine to a text :)

I also realised that the whole column thing is a funny given. What I do here, resembles at times what a column could or would be. I'll have to look up "column" to be positive about it all, but I have the idea that I'm all n all pretty close already.

I had a short summary of the projects Id like to achieve, in programming..
Priority at
* Porting my administrative software to .net - probably quite a task
* Writing Duisterhoop, the RoD admin software I'll be using in may (deadline) from scratch (again) in .net this time
and if I find the time, Id like to redo the RoD website in database driven PHP. I can hardly believe its not db driven yet, but whatever, the fact of the matter is that I want to redo it in PHP & that I REALLY should. An easy alterable interface is the goal. Easy for adding stuff & easy for layouting the piece of ****

The chess game with Tom is going along fine :) fun concept, mail a move a day. Can hardly wait to see what his move ll be tomorrow! Also :) Ive been playing some chess against gnuchess lately & .. DAMN ive been getting my arse kicked. In ways I didnt see coming over & over again. I do notice that Im getting better at it. Playing against a pc is less encumberant than vs a human. I can just let it hang & do different stuff, to continue later on. Its great!

The girl said a week to two weeks. Well, monday's two weeks, honey, so I expect to hear your sweet voice on my phone. Telling me my order has arrived, to pick up at my discresion. Which will be noon. (you see, its all planned already. The fuckers wont know what hit them) Then to put it on the net for loading of batteries (maybe play for a sec, but possibly not, because of my exam at 13.30)

But that d probably be a problem due to not being in reach of a pc all the time & stuff like that. Or maybe I should put it on the RoD site? Or maybe on the New and Revamped RoD site? Or maybe on cone? ..? Or another blog? I might even have one haning someplace.. Or maybe on the Gent blog.. Thats probably the best place anywho! .. yeah, I Should do that!

A keyb & a screen quickly helped me realise they had changed the net file to a new format.

So I had an error on the net configuration (figures) and no network. Next I had to update my DHCP but with no IP thats kinda hard, so I had to go by a fixed IP to solve it all. I got lucky there, the router didnt complain

& now its completely Fresh, with updated software, working DHCP & all. Partey!

I'm SO happy I live in belgium & not in a country where they need to legislate EVERYTHING! Those bozos really have too much time on their hands! (and I say bozos here as a personal oppinion, wich is protected under the freedom of speech amendement *rolleyes*)

And to make matters worse, I STILL don't own a Nintendo DS!
Today being the 9th, this is Unacceptable!

Blogger seems to have improved their Spell Checker. It seems to work a lot better now! Which is good since I discovered the google checker and Firefox don't really like each other :/
Still weird.. The blogger spell checker doesn't know the word "Blogger" or "Google" or "Firefox" either for that matter.. Is this some kind of weird anti narcissism? :D

The danger of "emerge world" on a server

I have a linux box here, running as server (yes, even as a student I have that luxury.. well .. luxury depends on how you view it) and a week ago I decided to emerge my world.. (update All the software on my system, for those who don't know) . I pretended to see how many programs and it gave a nice 250 something. I was quite happy about the whole thing, so I booted the update & there we went.. I had the pleasure of remembering how long compiling OpenOffice takes.. (its monstrous! It takes longer than motherfucking X!) and some days later (today) I finally saw.. It had completed. I use VNC and ssh to control the computer as I do not have any keyboard or screen near me (I don't have the space so I don't keep em around, they re back in lede) I read mail & chat on that machine so I can take that load of my laptop & don't have to worry about rebooting my laptop or fucking my laptop up. I will always have Gaim and Thunderbird safely tucked away on my server, at my diposal anywhere I can reach my box, no matter what computer I'm on. Even from back in Lede. It luxury. It wasn't really hard to configure it all and I'm happy I did. It works! Good!

That is, until I rebooted a while ago.
I was aware that "emerge world" can have some unforeseen breakages. I have had this happen before, back when I used it as my regular desktop. It d be a nuisance.. some more hours to spend fixing what I broke. But in the end, it would boot, Id have a screen and a keyboard and a mouse to immediately solve what I broke. But I don't have those anymore, Right now i'm stranded. I cant get to my box in any way, so I'm fucked until I get to keyboard, hardware, ..
"Emerge world" is dangerous. It really is. And if you think about it, its nothing but logical too! Updating a single part is already dangerous. I should have figured that upgrading everything is even more dangerous. Certainly when upgrading THAT MUCH at once!
So now, I'm locked out of it because of what looks like a small mistake in my network configuration. I presume the machine doesn't ask the DHCP for an IP & there s ofcourse where it does all go wrong! simple as that but hell of a lot trouble when you depend on it. Ofcourse I checked the updating of the config files. I'm not totally not-paranoid. But apparently, I didn't check it enough. Apparently I missed one!

In the end..
No biggie!
Its valuable experience, learnt on my own sever instead of fucking up a corporate server, stranding lots of users and crippling a whole company because of a slight miscalculation on my behalf.
HELL I really want a job as Network Admin over some linux servers :D

Now, back to the dishes, a shower & after that.. a small walk with my box

I saw some screens of the new worms for the DS & it looks great! I really look forward to playing it since its really a good game for the ds! Multiplayerwise, both normal wifi & internet play should be possibilities. And the touchscreen should make things Very easy.. Touchscreen in conjunction with the normal keys.. yeah, I'm REALLY looking forward to that one! I'm just speculating ofcourse.. Tough I might not be that far off judging what I saw on the screenshots.. They apparently use the touchscreen for map & weapons..

Newyears Conclusion

This new year I already got the stimuli to learn an important lesson. I hate the way I deal with dissapointment in people! I cant really handle it all that well. When friends let me down, feel hurt and angry at them. In the past I actually expressed this anger. Heated conversations in which I made 'em feel bad and didnt care I did. Because I felt I was rightiously angry!

This newyear I finally gave up being angry.. At least I decided I would give up being angry! Its a hard thing to do, but I'm ok :) Following these things, I can only decide I have to change my ways in being dissapointed.

Or more important, I should remember that I cant count on ppl the way I tought I could! Apparently I expect too much! So expecting less is the simple solution, which will also enable me to be less dissapointed and thus avoid difficult moments

I guess my lesson will not be about handling it better but rather avoiding dissapointment.. which is ofcourse just as good :)

I just read the blog that started the latest hype.. I never realised that my rant was about such a hit item.. Kinda sad I followed everyone on this, but I was unaware of the dimensions of this whole thing!

So, now, a backlink on my own post :) I had planned this some hours after I read it, but after reading the whole lot of 5 posts by Mr Russinovich I have no more to add that to link to his first post and advise everyone to read the whole 5 posts..

Copy protection

I just had the pleasure of buying a new CD (2 actually) of which one had "copy protection". Now .. I own an iPod and love using it and I don't really have any decent CD players in Gent. Do you see where this is going? I am now wondering what the CD industry is trying to do with their idiotic policy. I don't really feel a lot of respect towards me, the consumer, on whose money they all live, party, do drugs, hookers, tats & whatnot! EVERYTHING they do is about me, well not about me, but about the group of people I belong to. The people who BUY their stuff. Some people (probably members of the aforementioned industry) might ask why I buy Cd's to put on my iPod. The Industry has judged that if I want music for my iPod, I should buy my music over the internet and directly download it to my pod. Now for those who try to press that measure upon me.. There are a number of reasons why I DONT download buy my music but prefer to buy old fashion Cd's instead!
1. I like the art.. The cover, the back, the picture on the disk.. I like to check out the booklet and if they are so kind to bring out a special edition, I like to buy that special edition (like that Yummy edition I got from the Gorillaz, Demon Days.. Just great.. with DVD & ..)
2. I wont lose a CD, I might lose the data on my iPod / Hard disk (crashes ..)
3. I don't own a credit card.. Try to buy ANYTHING online without that!
4. I like to be able to put it on on a normal CD player back home
5. My provider has limited download. I buy LOADS of music.. I don't want to be stuck, wanting music but not being able to download because of the limit. I need it for data. As for paying to get a higher limit? Please refer to 6.
6. I don't have unimaginable loads of money! If they charge me a €1 a track price, Ill pay €22 for a full CD instead of the €17 I buy Cd's for. Now I do imagine them giving a full CD discount and even dropping the price a bit to even go under the CD price (which would only be fair, I mean, they don't have to ship it, print art, the boxes, ....) I still have to spend money on hard disks to put my songs on, because iPods crash. Its a hard disk you walk around with, its only normal things go wrong sometimes! So I need a hard disk in my computer big enough to store my music on. AND, if I want to have a backup, I need another hard disk and time to configure a raid setup. OK, raid might not be necessary but I d at least have to burn it on a CD or whatever which ALL translates to More Cost! I have to pay More money to get the same music, without all the fancy hardware involved with a real CD! Sounds like a ripoff!
7. I just Loathe the attitude

So, I prefer Cd's and I have some heavy arguments to do so. (and even if I didn't have decent arguments.. I AM free to decide what to do with my own money, no?)

I got myself some new Cd's :) I got into my car, took one of the Cd's and put it in, desperately curious to hear their New music :) After putting it in I checked out the CD case once more and noticed the Copy Protection. This would mean I'm fucked. Luckily I know a lil about computers and realise that this copy protection is Utter Crap :) So I got home and uploaded my freshly bought music to my beloved iPod. If I bought the music, I have the right to listen to it, no? Next step is to put the nice Cd's with the rest of my music, safely at home where only dust can harm it. The way I like it, babey!

As you might notice, that copy crap didn't prevent me putting it on my iPod. It might have prevented it if I wouldn't have the tech knowledge I gathered trough life so far. I put it into 2 PCs so far, one of them a win2k box with some updates but certainly not all of the most recent. Result on the w2k box? The music didn't play & told me to install updates.

In the end, what did the copy protection do..
As a tech user I was able to put it on my pod without problems, as I would an unprotected CD
As average person, with a normal computer, on the other hand.. It PREVENTED me LISTENING to my newly bought CD!
To me, right now, it looks like their protection 's only use is bothering the average person who buys a CD.

And where did the time go when data parts on Cd's contained nice extra content? A movie, a wallpaper, an interview .. instead of some lame "copy protection"


Now.. every rant is quite cheap f you only comment and don't put anything positive in, a solution, a positive point, ..

I don't think its feasible, developing a foolproof copy protection with current technology. Outlawing certain technology to make it possible is pure Nazi thinking. (I'm now thinking about the proposition in the USA to outlaw devices that convert analog media to digital content - technology for the chosen few, withholding it from the masses.. I can understand we want to do this with weapons - but harmless hardware?) Auto-running a program to prevent ripping the media using a computer is abusive towards the client, the consumer and will not solve anything. Licencing over internet will exclude people without internet, ..

What is the solution then? A shift in philosophy towards the whole thing. Offer a reason to buy the official goods instead of illegally copying it. POSITIVE action instead of pestering everyone who loves music.
A renewed respect towards the client, the consumer, the People!

I had a gruelling 3 month wait, unbearable. I wasnt going to wear my old jacket again, I tought.. WRONG Fuckin 2 months of cold during wich I had to because I just didnt have My New Jacket!
Anywho, its great! The iPod controlls are just Great & .. im happy :) hehe It was funny how my burton dealer / house lord dude reacted to finally being able to see the jacket & put an iPod in it & .. I am the only one so far who bought such a jacket from him :)


Im considering buying a nintendo DS.. I already decided that I d buy another console some years ago & i think that the DS really is the one I need :) Ive been looking at the different games & Im quite persuaded! I hope I can afford one soon!

I had another set of interesting lessons these last days.. Sadly enough, interesting and painfull often go hand in hand :/

I had a very good day today, I did a lot of work! quit resourcefull
yet on the other hand I had a wierd mood.. I was over energettic wich resulted in losing a lot of time :/

I really have a problem in getting to bed at a timely hour
and it BOTHERS me

I d love to get to bed at an hour that d be ideal for mini too
so we could go to bed at a time that d suit her better
instead of trying to stay awake & falling asleep before the TV :/

Im awake too long & I sleep too long. Its by biorythm & its A PROBLEM! And really one Id like to solve really soon!


I now have an orchid next to me and.. its beauty .. soothes my soul.. Im a lot happier now that its so close to me. So within my sight!
I remember being a kid & my dad importing a container of orchids from Thailand (had a lot of shit with it too, but thats another thing) And I remember when they FINALLY arrived in the .. green house? .. the sight they gave. It looked like a wall of alien white flowers.. wonderfull! I'm going to try to find out what type of orchid it was and I'll probably get one of those quite soon!

We also need some more herbs.. Right now we only have Basil, but we should really get some more! Pitty we dont have all THAT much space for hundreds of plants :)

I might want a green house in the yard in some years! I just LOVE fresh carrots, fresh from the earth!

just came to an unsatisfying end.. Im stuck with a bad Nic (apparently its broken) and a disk I cant properly install for the simple reason that I dont have a screen nor keyboard here to add the damn thing to my bios. Its unnerving.
I already forsaw this, I should say, but sadly enough my measures to solve the problem arent really "on demand" I told John about my potential problem & he told me I could use his hardware in time of need.. I cant seem to get to him at the moment so the ONLY thing thats left for me at the moment is WAIT

Im repairing my broken portage setup, but again, the only thing I can do is WAIT. Wait for the software to emerge.

This seems to have worked out ok
so now I can get into configuring that time client..

I might emerge some more first tough
